Country codes: which code belongs to which country?

A call showing +64 comes from New Zealand, +44 from the UK, +63 from the Philippines — and +61 is Australia itself. To dial overseas from Australia you use 0011 (or just the +) before the country code. Be careful with missed calls from countries you have no ties to: one-ring (wangiri) calls exist to make you dial back an expensive number — entries with mark the codes that recur in reports as callback-trap origins.

Got a call from overseas?

Australian numbers can be checked with the reverse lookup; for overseas numbers the rule is: never call back without verifying, especially after a single ring. More in the guide Why am I getting calls from overseas numbers?
